The material Sweet iron is a thin coating placed on top of stainless bits to mask the metallic taste. It creates a sweeter taste on the bit that promotes a draw and contact with the horse. Over time, the sweet iron (the blue material) will oxidize and become a more rust-brown color. The bit is combined with a hackamore that works together with the rein aids and creates pressure over the nose.
This bit is suitable for horses that become strong but cannot be bitted too sharply in the mouth without them snapping off. With this combination, you get the horse to seek forward and take support on the bit while the hackamore part helps to bring it back when needed. The slightly shorter shanks provide a milder leverage effect than the similar model with long shanks which becomes a bit stronger.
The bit height can be adjusted with a small Allen key to achieve an optimal fit.
