The sheepskin acts as a shock absorber and is soft for the sensitive back, also good for filling under the saddle if it is a bit wide for the horse.
Wash with Mattes Wool Detergent and brush up the sheepskin again when it has dried. Do not tumble dry.
Measure with a tape measure how long the contact surface is on the underside of your saddle. Then add 6cm to know what the minimum length of the saddle pad should be. The measurements can vary +/- 2cm. The saddle pad may shrink about 5% in the wash in some cases.
